Technology has had a great impact on the way the world communicates. Access to technology has become an integral part of education, socialization and industry related requirements, and accordingly Internet usage is evolving and growing rapidly. MySpace, Twitter, Skype, and Facebook are some of the online connections people use today to stay in contact with friends, coworkers, and family. Communicating in today’s society has become a lot easier with social networking sites allowing us to communicate with people with a simple click of the mouse. In this paper, I will address the strengths and limitations of social networking. I will look at the ways that social network can impact the social world of people and communities, especially those†¦show more content†¦As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them (Zuckerberg, 2010). Strength of social networking sites Social network sites (SNSs) such as such as Friendster, CyWorld, and MySpace allow individuals to present themselves, articulate their social networks, and establish or maintain connections with others (Ellison, 2007). These sites could be used for work related situation, romance, connecting with individuals with shared interest, or creating a connection amongst college students. Facebook enables its users to present themselves in an online profile, accumulate ‘‘friends’’ who can post comments on each other’s pages, and view each other’s profiles (Ellison, 2007). Individuals can write on the wall of friends, send private message, comment on posts, as well as chat via instant messaging. Much of the early research on online communities assumed that individuals using these systems would be connecting with others outside their pre-existing social group or location, liberating them to form communities around shared interests, as opposed to shared ge ography (Ellison, 2007). Explain your choice. What was the most important thing you learned about economics during this term? Answer: (1)Definition: Free trade agreement allows doing the business of the goods and services in between the two or more countries free without any tariffs or hurdles/interfere but labor and the capital cannot move freely in between the countries. In this agreement, the country can cross the border of the other country free and does not pay the taxes while doing commerce of goods services. Assumptions: There are many products on those the export of them from Australia to China is free and the government does not levy the tariffs on them. These are. Food products such as beef, wine, dairy, seafood and horticulture but in the product of beef and the milk powder certain volume decided that is easily export without Tariff Products like sugar, rice and cotton as these products have the sensitive demand in the market of China. Certain Mineral ores on which the tariffs are removed like coal and alumina Services those are provide by the Australian population. Services of legal advice, medical, mining and construction The above all transactions of the free trade give the opportunity to the China to make an adverse investment in the Australia. A bilateral trade effects on the economy of both international countries (Abraham Frederick , 1997). Trade and investment policies are the framework laws and regulations that applies on the transactional / operations while doing international business. Regulations from an international business authorities like WTO (world trade organizations) and bilateral FTAs (free trade agreements). Analysis The types of trade and investment policies in the free trade agreement in between china and Australia are- Liberalization commitments done at multilateral level under the WTO (world trade organization)- these are important for an international trade. Competition Policy Regulatory transparency Economic integration- It is among china and Australia that supports the environment of the business through integration of financial services. (2)Definition: Free trade agreement negotiated by the Australia with china Jointly with the new Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, United states and Singapore whereas the Bilateral agreement with India, Korea and Indonesia. Therefore, these countries are direct affected by the agreement in between Australia and the china. Industries affected by the FTA are- Beef lamb exporters, Dairy, Sugar, Seafood, horticulture, Wine, Rice, Wool, Mining and Grains (Yasui, 2011). The positive benefits are- Benefits occurred because of the liberalization of goods and services The powerful/ dynamic value of long term agreement Implementation of new trade policies Trade benefits to the GDP (Gross domestic product) of both the countries Negative impacts were face due to the limited accessing trends. It is due to the lack of data available and the time consuming in setting the new business conditions by the exporters. Most of the changes were notice in the pattern of trade and took many years to make exporters in doing adjustments in the rules of the new trade. So, that barriers will get reduce progressively. Assumption: There are various factors like Investment, transportation, demography, energy, natural resources, Transport costs institutions are the factors those gives the shape to the trade of the particular industry and decides on the basis of these that for how long they run? Few of these are- Demography- The world goes through with the various changes in the size, and the composition of population. It affects on the patterns of trade and the level of demand in import business. Composition of the labor force relates with the transition that shows the increase share of the educated participative workers. Investment: The capital uses by the new industry entered into an international trade. Savings in the own domestic country helps in increasing the capital. Technology: Most of the innovative machines used in the production. New countries entered into an international trade with the drivers of progress in technology but the transfer of it became difficult. It helps in expanding the trade by reducing costs and gives the new shape to the advantages comparatively. Analysis Bilateral trade agreements increases tto govern the investment in an international trade , run the risk by regulatory divergence. The other determinants of technology, movement of manforce, direct trade is through licensing. (3)Definition Agriculture that was directly affect by the Trade agreement in between Australia and the china. Tariffs are the major barriers faced by the exporters of Australia in pursuing the competition with the market of china. Many of the exporters of Australia of wool, wheat, sugar and cotton are restricting their quantity of business in these sectors with the tariff quotas. In the last decade, the dairy consumption of China was restricted in the market because of tariffs around 15 %. The meat consumption increases in China and faces the tariffs up to 25 %. Australia is the biggest supplier of wool and china is the producer of wool textiles and the difference if any is maintain by the tariffs (Hastings,2005). In the same way, the tariffs also affect sugar. The consumption of sugar in china also increased with the enhancement of the consumption of the beverages and the processed food. Whereas Australian exporter still face the problem of the Tariff of 15 % that enhance to 50% once the allocate d tariff quotas reach there. Other industries are still awaiting for the benefits to avail. FTA (free trade agreement) with its associated reduced tariffs is highly beneficial for the exports revenue of the Australia (East Asia Analytical Unit Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade,2000.). Assumption The economy of the China involves a huge agriculture sector and spread over all large geographical areas. Most of the producers relies on the rates of tariffs those applies by the government of china makes ensure that the less effective means of production does not prevent the competitiveness in the market. Agriculture may be the highly crucial / critical industry in china due to the countrys social and the cultural factors. Analysis The forces of the market under the supervision of the government of the china encourage the producers of their own domestic country to consider all resources that may achieve the advantages of the competition (World Trade Organization, 2012). This agreement was in between these two countries related with the agriculture trade acknowledge the advantages of the competition through the availability of the workforce and the advantage of the Australias superior production. Australia maintained rigid restrictions that should not negotiate with the aim of reducing risk in the domestic and export industries of Australia. Similarly, China has also tried to do the various attempts in improving its regulations with an introduction of the unit of the supervision in quality of products. It involves the inspection of the various import product. It requires the testing f products at the various intervals to check or meet the quality of standards. (4)Definition Service industries are adversely affected indirectly by the FTA (free trade agreement) in between Australia and china. Employment in the Chinese sector of services in 2015 falls down from the base line and this percentage falls in all the financial and the communication services. Employment in the service sector of china was about to grow at the average rate of the 2.52 %. The 0.1 falls in the service sector of employment as related to the level of the base line (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade,2005). It means the trade liberalization of services; its employment would increase in the lower rate by 2.51 % instead of 2.52%. In the other way the decrease in the service sector of employment is less than its base line level that does not indicates dismissals but shows the lesser rate of hiring. Assumption Trade in services is well establish in Australia as the export service and the Chinese servicing export approaches and reaches until billions. There are various modes of services those are offered by the Australia to leave the positive impact on the economy of their own country such as firm that provides the services to international visitors like tourism services or an insurance firm of the Australia who sells insurance to the people resides in the China. An Australian bank opens its branch in the china that means the services of the financial institution provides in the foreign country. Analysis The effects of bilateral investments in the sector of services reduce the acquired rates of return for Australian investment in the service sector. Services trade liberalization estimated an increment in the gross domestic product in both the countries through increased capital and improved productivity. In CHAFTA, China has offered the Australia its commitments towards its best services (China FTA Study Taskforce,2005). This involves the access of market for the banks of Australia, securities, insurance, law firms with all professional services such as exporters of education services, health services, Production and telecommunication services in china. In present, Service sector comprises 72 % economic activity of Australia. This agreement gives the guarantee in accessing the existing market for supplying the services of Australia. The other preference is that this fastest growing service market CHAFTA includes the framework for the mutual recognition in the qualification of service s by the professional bodies of China and Australia. (5)Definition Strengths and the weakness in the terms of the cultural and the economic related with an international trade in between China and Australia. The advantages are that it leaves the great impact globally on the other various countries with the different industries. Various growth opportunities means in the regional growth areas. In addition, a positive effect notices on the European culture. Whereas, disadvantage are in the forms of threats that impact on the integration and the development. Assumption The Europe is not only the Australias largest investment and the trade partner but it is the largest economy in the world with the Gross domestic product $ 18 trillion which is 9% greater than the United States (Ball,2005). Japan that is more than seven times greater than the china and almost similar of the GDP of Australia, it is the largest in the international trading follows the bilateral trade that means the exports in the goods. Influence of the same is worldwide on Europe, Asian US market. Proper strategic alliance follows for pursuing the policy of security in the trade and enhances the Exchanges of the security issues. During the Second World War, it was notice that cultural and social relations in between the Australia and the Europe were together by the democratic values. Concerns related with the threat majorly considers the process of regional integration but over the Competition in the European market causes the insecurity of food, inequality impacts on the society and loss in the revenue of the economy. Some of the non-government organization in Fiji criticized the Europe for their pressure on economic and political areas to bring up the new markets in the developing countries in Asia. Such groups criticize and had fight upon the Australian and the Europe development plans for elimination the trade barriers than economic development. The major concern is the threat that leaves the impact on the unfair competition in the market causes the insecurity and inequalities (Boehm,1993). Analysis The above study results in the outcomes of understanding the role of markets in the worldwide. The impact of the Australian market with its economy is possible by a competitive environment, increased productivity, efficiency and the levels of production. Increase in the economy of the own country i.e. domestic from international business as economy is dependent on global markets. (6)Definition The most important interested thing in this whole term is the Oligopoly. It is the market where most of the firms doing their business and creates the competition at the huge scale. In market, the industry dominated by few sellers these are known as Oligopolies. Oligopoly has its own structure of the market. It results from the different forms of complicity that reduces the competition. Each seller is aware about the action of the other seller. Decisions of one firm leave the impact on the other one (Big banks running an oligopoly, says Virgin Money chief,2011). Assumption Competition arouses from the oligopoly market gives the different types of results. In some cases, the firms follows the restrictions imposed on the practices of their trade for increasing the prices of their products controls the production activity in the same way as controls the monopoly. A formal agreement creates the collusion known as cartel. It is moreover elaborate with the help of an example: Cartel is OPEC that has the deep pressure on an international price of oil. Firms those create the collusion stabilizes the unstable markets that reduces the risk for making investment and the development of the product. Legal restrictions of the country where they are trading are impose on such collusions are followed by the firms. To avoid the collusion in between the firms an effective communication must be there. Analysis The analysis of oligopoly is very sensitive to all the values those defines the structure of the market. It is very tough to measure the dead loss in the trading. Trade loss represents the differentiation of products produced by the firm shows that oligopolies may initiate the level of differentiation in an excess form to smother the competition. Utilitarianism Essays (677 words) - Utilitarianism,

Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is the ethical doctrine which essentially states that which is good is that which brings about the most happiness to the most people. John Stuart Mill believed that the decisions we make should always benefit the most people as much as possible regardless of the consequences to the minority or even yourself. He would say all that matters in the decision of right versus wrong is the amount of happiness produced by the consequences. In the decisions we make Mill would say that we need to weigh the outcomes and make our decision based on that outcome that benefits the majority. For Mill, pleasure is the only desirable consequence of our decisions or actions. The Judeo-Christian ethic embraced by Augustine places questions of right and wrong under the authority of a divine creator - God. The Judeo-Christian ethic can be summed up in one word - Love. In Matthew 22:40 Jesus says: ?Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love you neighbor as yourself.? When Augustine said, ?Love God and do what you will?, I believe he is asserting the fact that when a person loves God truly he or she is in God's will. John 14:15 says, ?If you love me, you will obey what I command.? If a person obeys God which is loving God and loving his creation then a person is in his will. The decisions made by a person in God's will are thus ethical decision in view of the fact that God is the ultimate moral authority. To help his creation in determining right from wrong he has provided the Bible. Although not every ethical question is covered in the Bible he has also given us his Spirit for guidance. Utilitarianism like the Judeo-Christian ethic is viewing others in a high regard. Utilitarian desire the greatest happiness as an end and the Judeo-Christian perspective seeks love and obedience to God. These two ethical systems seem to be similar in this aspect of caring what happens to all people. Both Utilitarianism and the Judeo-Christian ethic take the focus off the individual and place it on others. The Utilitarian is aiming to bring about the greatest amount of happiness to the greatest amount of people. The Judeo-Christian ethic is God-centered with the commandment to truly love Him. This love places a person in his divine will. People operating in this system are also called to love others as themselves. Being in God's divine will is the end by which love is the means. A person's commitment is to God and his divine will. On the other hand, in Utilitarianism a person's commitment is to pleasure. Another point of variance lies in the meaning of love and happiness. For Mills, happiness is the desired end regardless of the means. Thus there seems to be an absence of standards by which the means to obtain happiness are judged. If ten people would derive happiness by beating and robbing a man whose life affects no one, Utilitarianism seems to deem this ethical. On the other hand, the Judeo-Christian perspective clearly sets standards on actions. The commandment to love your neighbor as yourself dispels such actions of beating and robbing others. Love as a commandment doesn't always necessarily mean happiness for the greatest number of people. In the Judeo-Christian ethic discipline is often a part of loving someone. In Mill's ethics discipline is what may happen to the minority to provide happiness for the majority. In the Judeo-Christian ethic discipline may involve the majority such as in the case of God's disciplinary actions on Israel. In the process of forming a decision the Utilitarian must consciously weigh outcomes for the greatest happiness. This system places ultimate morality on the individual making the decision. This is in stark contrast to the moral authority found in the Judeo-Christian ethics of God. Philosophy

Human Rights Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 4

Human Rights - Essay Example Every living individual is entitled to enjoy his or her protection no matter where he or she comes from. According to UDHR, justice is the main purpose, which is to ensure that justice, and peace reigns worldwide. It ensures that there is a rule of law, and its greatest aspiration is to ensure that all the human race is treated the same and equality given the urgency it deserves (Kant 296). This is because balanced development is achievable, throughout the world, if the human rights are protected. However, this cannot be achieved if both men and women are not given equal opportunities to express their worth. UDHR also leads to improved living standards. The freedoms of people must be maintained in order to have productive individuals, who are full of life and goal-oriented. The universal declaration of human rights, therefore, states that all individuals are free and entitled to every right stipulated in the declaration as long as their action is within the law (Kant 299). This is because freedom leads to utilitarianism. People having autonomy to act and go on with their businesses, the way they deem fit, will automatically increase their happiness and significantly reduce their suffering. Their action will be in the course with the law because they are comfortable and enjoying the fruits of their moral behavior and actions (DeLaet 47). According to UDHR, liberty is fundamental in ensuring that the right course of action is followed and that everybody is happy (DeLaet 54). According to Utilitarian perspective, liberty is the ability of individuals to control their own action and be able to make a difference between rights and wrong (DeLaet 54). It is the guiding principle in the execution of either individual or public action. This is because it gives people the option of either acting within the rules laid down, in article three of the universal

Total Quality Management - CASE STUDY Assignment

Total Quality Management - CASE STUDY - Assignment Example The aim is to find the solutions to the problems that the Company A met in the implementation of TQ to suggest alternative paths by assimilating the practiced quality management systems with others such as lean manufacturing, as introduced at MIT for producing quality care efficiently, Six Sigma including FEMA for reducing defects to near-zero along with ISO standards. Coming back to the question above, the most likely approach used for quality management systems and processing at a time when progress regarding improvement had â€Å"plateaued† was to put on hold further development until issues on the priority list were sorted out. This was also the expert review of the investigative parent company of Company A. Earlier, the company A had taken certain one-off advances which have provided leverages but setting them aside, otherwise the approach of management had been irregular and doubtful. The management applied different parameters of saying something and doing differently such as quality was given the topmost priority in discussions but the actual preference was to reach production targets irrespective of quality considerations. Processes were never completed for initiating new product leaving the scope of improvement in new product at later stages of manufacturing, which affected the cost factor leading to reduced returns. In this regard, it is important to know the stage of the new product where corrections are made as a new product at definition phase costs 1$, which if rectified at production stage costs 1000$. Being a manufacturing unit, the emphasis remains on meeting quality requirements, reliability, and process-control besides cost reduction while attending to engineering and manufacturing aspects of the products. In the given context, the Company A committed such errors more often, thus, increasing the cost of meeting quality benchmarks. The approach for q uality management systems included new tools and techniques such as Statistical Process

Race and Racism Essay Example for Free

Race and Racism Essay In comparison to the almighty universe in which people all live in, human beings are merely a speck of dust at the size of it all. Then here are these beings on planet earth, with all 7 billion people under the same moon, divided. No longer are human equals as beings, but separate because of the system of ignorance, exploitation, and power used to oppress people on the basis of ethnicity, culture, mannerisms, and culture (Marable 1). Racism is the issue Americans have swept under the rug; the problem is being ignored, leaving cultures in the dark of their own history causing blame to be shifted on to all sorts of hosts, and it’s time to pick up the rug to dust. Society as a whole seems to have broken down what makes a person unique, dehumanizing them and leaving them susceptible to oppression (Marable 2). One must not be so quick to forget that every single human being is made up of the same genetic material, to forget something so broad is to undermine the gift of thinking itself. Manning Marable writes in Racism and Sexism that stereotypes are at the heart of every form of racism today. Racism is not a topic that sits around at the front of everybody’s brain. Racism does not twist on the tip of your tongue begging to be talked about. Racism is something that is ignored and denied. Shocking statistics from Tim Wise’s On White Privilege were discussed, stating that in 1962, 80% of white folk believed that racism was not even a problem. In the same year, 90% of white folk believed that colored children had equal education opportunities as white children. To believe that racism was not even a problem would be to say that over the 750 race riots 228 people were not actually killed, 12,741 people were not critically injured, and that the 15,000 acts of arson did not leave black urban neighborhoods in ruins, in the same year of 1962 (Postrel). White people are completely unburdened by race; where as colored people constantly feel their capabilities are always being second guessed. However, Charles M. Blow, author of Escaping Slavery, explains to the reader that apparently white people think their actions are justified! And Blow goes as far as to say that â€Å"the idea that progress toward radical harmony would or should be steady and continuous is fraying† (Blow 1). In On White Privilege, the speaker Tim Wise pointed out that white people were asked in 2009 if they believed that racial discrimination is still a problem and only 6% said ‘yes. ’ To put that into perspective: more people would believe that Elvis is still alive than to believe that racial discrimination is still a problem (Wise). Perhaps the density of the universe compromised the carrying capacity of the human brain causing a malfunction making it so the only thing people can think about is them self. Definitely not progress (Blow 2). The white system of ignorance and exploitations is causing the cultures of color to completely lose track of their own histories (Marable). People who are oppressed themselves begin to lose touch with their own traditions of history, community, love, celebrations, struggle, and change (Marable). Tim Wise reminds viewers whose history we are truly learning in school- text books are filled only with white history; people of color are forced to regurgitate white history, white literature, white art, white theater, etc. , while if a white person does not know an ounce of black history, it can go virtually unnoticed in this country (Wise). Actions speak louder than words and people seem to continue to prove their ignorance. As part of the Civil Rights Movement and an effort to create a solution to unlawful discrimination in housing based on race, color, sex, nation origin, or religion, the Fair Housing Act was passed in 1968 (Russell). Fast forward 38 years later where 2006 showed the highest level of discriminating housing complaints based on race (Wise). 38 whole years later and the only thing society can show on terms of progress is the lack of acceptance being distributed around the country. There is not enough change taking place as a country in order to move forward into truly being the United States of America; home of the Brave but we still fear what we do not know. It is always easier to accuse other forces for a problem than to admit that you are actually making the mess yourself. It has been said that if one is not a part of the solution then one is a part of the problem; however, some people are purely unburdened by race, they don’t know racism because they have never had to experience it- people are completely surrounded by and completely oblivious of the problem. Failure to talk about racism feeds the denial (Wise). The finger can be pointed in any direction, and instead of calling it â€Å"blame† the word â€Å"cause† is used instead because that is more constructive, and let’s face it, we need as much progress as we can get. However, progress seems to be unbearably intangible when Blow points out that the pillars of the institution- the fundamental devaluation of dark skin and stained justifications are for the unconscionable- have proved surprisingly resilient (Blow). The ignorance and lack of education only feeds the pillars’ strength. Completely blinded by utter fear, America seems to be in a standstill of progress towards the issue on racism. Starting with Charles Blow’s work in Escaping Slavery, down to Manning Marable’s Racism and Sexism, and what Tim Wise said in On White Privilege, it can be assumed that progress will always need to be made to bring this country closer to unity. Breaking down racial barriers and stereotypes have proven to be an especially lengthy process, however that does not justify the slothfulness of it all. Open minds and hearts is what it is going to take to shatter the structure that leaves this country divided. Comparison of Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story :: comparison compare contrast essays

A Comparison of Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There is a lot in common between the two plays Romeo And Juliet and West Side Story.  Ã‚   The main male characters have many things in common.   In fact, Toni and Romeo both miss the beginning fight at the beginning of the plays, they both fall in love and end up getting killed.   The difference between the two is that Toni takes place in the 1950s'', while Romeo happens in Elizabethan times (the late 1500s).   The two main female characters also have many things in common.   Juliet and Maria both come from families that hate each other's boyfriend's families.   Something that makes Juliet different from Maria is that Juliet dies and Maria lives.   In both of these plays the main male character kills a relative of their lover.   In Romeo And Juliet, Romeo kills Tybalta, Juliet's cousin.   In West Side Story, Toni kills Bernardo, Maria's brother. There was a person in both play's that tried to make peace.   These people were the Prince and the Lieutenant.   The Prince, from Romeo And Juliet, had told Romeo and Juliet's families that if there was another riot that the heads of each family will be killed.   The Lieutenant, from West Side Story, had told the Puerto Rican's and the American's that if they get into another fight they all will have to go to jail. The difference between the two peace-makers is that the Prince has more power than the Lieutenant.   In the story of   Romeo and Juliet, Paris wants to marry Juliet against her wishes.   Her father wants Paris   West Side Story to marry Juliet.   Juliet goes off and marries Romeo without telling anyone.   In Chino wants to marry Maria against her wishes, just like Paris in Romeo and   Juliet.   Maria and Toni do not get married, which is in contrast to Romeo and Juliet. Marcucio in Romeo and Juliet, is killed while battling Tybalta.      In West Side Story Riff is killed in a knife fight with Bernardo.   Both deaths are accidental and cause the hero's ( Romeo and Toni) to kill the close relative of their lovers (Tybalta and Bernardo).   Both stories conclude in the sad

Organization of the study Essay

The study will be organized into four chapters in accordance with the Action Research, as table 1 displays. TABLE 1 Organization of the study based on action research Action Research Steps Chapters 1 2 3 4 Planning/Conceptualization X Fact Finding X X X Evaluation X Chapter 1 has stated the problem and purpose, explained the importance of the study, and stated the method. Chapter 2 will survey the literature to identify and report behaviors required to effectively analyze the characteristics of the church leaders, church members and surrounding neighborhood. Chapter 3 will report the validated behaviors for the role of the church. Chapter 4 will review and summarized the study, offer appropriate conclusion and discuss recommendations for change and future study. A review of literature available regarding the Black church and the involvement of the church in the community reveals a pattern of strong involvement of the church in the community. African presence in the Bible shows a clear participation in the early Church as well as a respect for African involvement. The early history of the church, as well as its mid-20th century involvement in the civil rights movement, sets a precedent for community involvement in secular matters for the church of today. Modern involvement of the Black church in secular life and the wider community touches all aspects of secular life, including physical and mental health of its parishioners, youth advocacy and youth programs, economic development, community volunteering, and literacy. Additionally, more traditional areas of pastoral involvement, such as bereavement counseling, may have some overlap with secular counseling due to increasing involvement in secular mental health providers in life events previously handled in a primarily pastoral manner. BIBLICAL CONTEXT Blacks have a strong presence in the Bible, and there is no evidence of the modern idea of racial inferiority to other peoples in the writings. Both Old Testament and New Testament writings refer to Africans who were highly placed, and do not show any evidence of the discrimination or enslavement African Americans have faced. â€Å"When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt† (Hosea 11:1) The Queen of Sheba was a notable Biblical African; she was treated as an equal and given full honors as a head of state. â€Å"And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him all that was in her heart† (1 Kings 10:2) The genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew lists several African women – â€Å"And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;† (Matthew 1:5) – Rachab and Ruth were African women, as was Thamar. The gathering of Jews at Pentacost related in Acts included those of African origin. â€Å"Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of ibya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. † (Acts 2:9-2:11). Two of the teachers at Antioch were also African – â€Å"Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brough up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul† (Acts 13:1). Of these teachers, Simeon (called Niger, Latin for â€Å"the black†) and Lucius of Cyrene were African. The wealth of African presence and importance in the Bible makes it clear that the African American church has a strong Biblical precedent. HISTORICAL CONTEXT The African church was active and important in the history of the early church. The Synod of Hippo, held in 393 in Hippo Regius (corresponding to northern Algeria) was instrumental in forming Christianity as we know it today; that is where the first canon of the New Testament was approved. Several other synods were also held in Hippo Regius, as well as councils in Carthage and Alexandria (Hendrickson, 2002, 320). Egypt and Algeria were centers of Christian worship. Major historical events in Christianity, including the Reformation, spread Christianity further into Africa. When Africans were captured and sent to the New World as slaves, they brought with them a melange of religious practice, including Christianity, native religions and others. The black church in America was established during the 1700s, during which time many African Americans were still suffering under the yoke of slavery. The first uniquely black church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, was established by Richard Allen in 1816; membership in the new denomination exploded, reaching almost 6,000 members by 1820 and spreading to the south and west quickly (Simms, 2000, 101). The Black Methodist church immediately took on the characteristic role of the black church, fighting oppression and slavery, providing loans and business advice and other social services to their worshippers (Simms, 2000, 101). The church was instrumental in abolishing slavery; David Walker’s work â€Å"Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World†, published in 1829, which castigated the institution of slavery and used Scriptural quotation and traditional Christian morals to prove the immorality of slavery and the moral bankruptcy of the slave owners, provided a galvanizing force to the Abolitionist movement as well as encouragement to those still enslaved (Simms, 2000, 102). Simms relates the spread of the Black church throughout America to the exodus of Southern blacks at the start of World War I; given a sudden chance at employment and expansion, Southern blacks moved north into the industrial heartlands of Michigan, Illinois and Indiana as well as into the Northeast, and they brought their religion along with them. One notable congregation was the Abyssinian Baptist Church of Harlem, which provided political, social and economic support to its 14,000 members (2003, 102). Blum remarks on the position of the church in the Black community, â€Å"the Black church has been the enduring center and focal point of Black communities and the refuge from racism and poverty†¦ the church provided Blacks with a shelter, and indeed, was the most significant of all Black institutions (1993, 609)†. At the time the Black church differentiated from white denominations, slavery and oppression against Blacks was rife. The church’s establishment was a form of protest against the ruling white majority and a spiritual refuge from the larger world. Because the congregants of the Black church have never had the luxury of a coherent, secular social support structure, the church has taken on the role of social caregiver as well as spiritual caregiver. According to Gadzekpo (2001, 609), the church had from its inception a distinct, African-American culture, and was not an attempt to mimic the white church as is often assumed. â€Å"The major aspect of Black Christian belief was freedom†¦ for the African in America as a slave, it meant release from bondage; after emancipation, it meant education, employment and freedom of movement for the â€Å"Negro†, and for the past forty years it has meant social, political and economic justice for the African-American (2001, 609). † According to Gadzekpo, a call to God’s service was seen as a call to freedom; it is a basic tenet of the Black Christian church that God wants Black Christians to be free because they, too, are made in his own image. The involvement of the Black church in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s was notable, not only because church leaders precipitated a major change in the secular culture, but because it set a pattern of involvement of the church in secular matters, including political, social and health. Leonard Gadzekpo discusses the involvement of the Black church in the civil rights movement. He states: One may present the Black church as an institution that gives some direction to the aforementioned aspects of African-American life and influences them, particularly in American society at large. The core values of Black culture – such as freedom, justice, equality, an African heritage and racial parity in all aspects of human life – were inherent in the Christian ethos that gave birth to and nurtured the civil rights movement. (2001, 609). With the founding doctrine of the Black church being religious, political and physical freedom, the involvement of the church in the civil rights movement was inevitable. Likewise, involvement of the church in the political and social problems that African-Americans face today is inevitable. As Gadzekpo notes, †¦ the Black church, therefore, has reached the point in the last decade of the twentieth century in which searing demands are being made for a return to the tradition of self-help and agitation†¦ the development of new and creative approaches has become commonplace in the face of internal pressures involving changes within African-American society, external pressures involving prevalent and persistent racism, and the hostile environment in which the church exists. (2001, 610) The history and current position of the church within the Black community clearly indicate that there is a need for involvement of the church in secular matters as well as spiritual, and that the church, by providing this involvement, would be continuing the tradition of service which the church was founded in. However, as Simms notes, the church struggles with the bifurcation of the black community. More affluent blacks who have managed to escape the traditional economic and social confines of the African American experience have not remained within the church to continue to support its mission. The modern black church is a divided entity, rather than a united whole, which weakens its efforts and causes difficulty in determining its path (Simms, 2000, 105).

Understanding Aber and Sondern in German

Understanding Aber and Sondern in German Conjunctions are words that link two sentences. In German, they belong to the group of non-declinable words, which means that they never change, no matter what case you think you should use or what gender a following noun has. However, while in English you might only have one option, in German you will often find several possibilities to choose from.  Such is the case with aber and sondern, which your dictionary will most certainly translate both as but. Using but in German Take a look at the following sentences: The child didnt want to go home, but to the park. Das Kind will nicht nach Hause gehen, sondern zum Park. I dont understand what you say, but you will certainly be right. Ich verstehe nicht, was Sie sagen, aber Sie werden schon Recht haben. She is exhausted but doesnt want to go to sleep. Sie ist erschà ¶pft aber will nicht schlafen gehen. As you can see, both aber and sondern mean but in English. How do you know which but conjunction to use? It is actually quite simple: Aber, which means but or however,  is used after either a positive or negative clause. On the other hand, sondern is only used after a negative clause when expressing a contradiction. In other words, the first clause of the sentence must contain either nicht or kein, and the second part of the sentence must contradict the first part of the sentence. Sondern can be best translated as  but rather. Carusos Little Brother Helps You to Create Better Sentences One last thing: aber and sondern are so called ADUSO-words. ADUSO is an acronym for: Aaber (but)Ddenn (because)Uund (and)Ssondern (contradicting but)Ooder (or) Those conjunctions all take position zero in a sentence. To remember that, you might want to think of ADUSO as the little brother of Enrico Caruso, the great opera singer. But he never grew out of his famous brothers shadow and remained quite a loser. Imagine the o in loser as a zero to remember position zero. A Little Quiz Lets test your knowledge. Which German version of but would you use in the following sentences? Ich komme nicht aus England _____ aus Schottland. I dont come from England but from Scotland. Ich bin hungrig, _____  ich habe keine Zeit etwas zu essen. I am hungry, but I dont have time to eat something. Sie spricht drei Sprachen: Englisch, Russisch, und Arabisch, _____ leider kein Deutsch. She speaks three languages: English, Russian, and Arabic, but unfortunately no German. Wir htten gerne drei cheeseburger _____ ohne Zwiebeln. We would like (to have) three cheeseburgers but without onions. Er hat keinen Kartoffelsalat mitgebracht, _____  Nudelsalat. He didnt bring potato salad, but noodle salad. Er hat gesagt, er bringt Kartoffelsalat mit, _____ er hat Nudelsalat mitgebracht. He said, hed bring potato salad, but he brought noodle salad.

Globalisation as the Enhanced Cooperation Assignment

Globalisation as the Enhanced Cooperation - Assignment Example Intergovernmental agencies act as a watchdog that promotes peace and human rights. Contentious issues are not military solved but dealt with in amicably in summits. Economic trade organizations encourage multilateral and bilateral interactions. Introduction of subsidies and wavering on tariffs results to lowered priced goods which curbs inflation. Controlled inflation finally is what normally improves the living standards benefitting both the states involved in the trade. Economic integration also protects members from exploitation as their union reinforce the bargaining power in the international markets. Such symbiotic relationships foster peace and unity in a region (Pande & Weide, 2012). Citizens moving across borders of countries also undergo fewer restrictions. Interurban and the interurban trades have greatly promoted cultural interaction and appreciation among between these regions. Migration is never an easy task in as much as it can bring happiness to a person. A young male Mexican with little attachments, if unmarried can find it easy to move from a place to the next. This young individual might possess little baggage to carry around and is flexible enough to adapt everywhere. Movement for the retired mid-western farm couple is quite challenging. The movement for the aged is quite difficult reason being getting adapted to a new culture which is not simple. An old couple might find it difficult to move after already stabilizing a family in a place. Lastly on the unemployed heavy machine operator will face the hurdle of mobility in terms of machinery. Moving heavy machinery is expensive and can lead to breakage while in transit. Security in where he will be moving is also important for both his/her equipment and family. Acclimatising and adapting to a new area could have been easier if the heavy equipment operator could have been of a tender age. Migration is irredeemably an agent of diffusion. As people move from one place to the next they  bring in cultural exchange. America was referred to as the new world by the Europeans as they a vast culture that was so alien to theirs.

Factors affecting change

Factors affecting change Explain briefly what kind of change has taken place in both the organization, and discuss the reasons of this change, identify whether it is a result of internal environmental factors or external environmental factors in both organizations you selected. Comparison of Chosen organizations I have chosen two organizations names, Tandoori Restaurant and Tata Motors, so Tandoori Restaurant is a small and private owned business as compare with other business because Tata Motors is an international and large brand so it is well known everywhere but both businesses are based in India. Overview of Tandoori Restaurant I have been with Tandoori Restaurant since two years as a waiter or serving staff. I analyze the changes in management when a senior casher Mr. Sangit Singh got position of manager so he brought several changes in management and system. Specifically he brought internal changes in the efficiency and performance of employees. Major Changes Business Hours; he change the business hours and maintain the new roster for employees, they spend more potential hours on work especially breakfast means early morning and dinner times to late night. Customer services focus; he put the certain ways and rules to employees for customer orientation like that deal politely and take order carefully etc. He trained the waiters how they take correct order and they should know the recipes of all dishes because some time customer asked about the ingredients before recording order. He has given the new bright vision to all employees about culture differences and diversities because some time customers belong to different cultures and religions. He builds up proper communication between chef and waiters about the food, ingredients and customer orders and if customer changed his order so waiter conveniently replace the order. Chef performance; leader improves the chef performance because he believes that chef should be active, professional and expert in all areas of cooking. In busy hours chef should be quick and cook several recepies at a time. He strictly check the quantity of cooked food and he stop the wastage of cooked food, in this way daily they cooked estimated numbers of people food and they saved their raw food items. Internal Reasons for Change Tandoori Restaurant is a small and private business so in the end of fiscal year they found the bit loss and their business is not growing so than they brought Mr.Singht Singh as a restaurant manager. He modifies the management system and he took initiative for the business growth. He brought some internal and external changes like that; Customer focus; he improve the quality of customer services and he gave the trial and training of dealing the several culture customers. they were in full competition so they need to provide best customer services and more working hours with the variety of food and may be time to time they need to do promotion offers as well. They have to improve the culture gap between employees of restaurant. Chef performance; he improves the kitchen management and chef performance during busy working hours. Meanwhile he reduces the wastage of cooked food and save the raw food and money. Overview of Tata Motors Tata Motors was highly successfully, well diversified and globally ambitious automobile giant represents one of Indias most remarkable corporate successful. Tata Motors has a 5 billion loss when suddenly his trucks demand collapsed so thats why by the end of fiscal year of March 2001they had a biggest lost in the history of company. Major Changes Less Cyclical Product; they focus on less cyclical products like that light commercial vehicles, buses, spare parts and passenger cars and they put their resources and effort on these products. Domestic Market Share; Today Tata Motors transformed in to worlds fifth-largest manufacturer of medium and heavy trucks .Now it has got 61 percent domestic market share in this sector. It is in number-two position for sales of passenger vehicles in the Indian market. Overseas Market; It has also built a significant global presence and establish the sales efforts in overseas markets because they want to improve and maintain their sales level. Tata is one of the large Company doing e-sourcing in India and it is one of the world wide leading automobile industry. Joint Venture; Tata Motors has formed a joint venture with Marcopolo, the Brazilian bus manufacturer, these are the international brands. Tata Motors will flourish their business with them. Tata Motors has embarked on a wide-ranging global partnership with the Italian group-an arrangement that both sides expect to flourish. External Reasons for change: Less Demand; Tata Motors faced a problem of less demand for its core product, so their main product was trucks and they face the loss sale in the present market so they invested on other products like that spare parts, passengers cars etc. Competition threat; they have a threat from overseas automobile companies because market is full with the competition of model, price and quality. There was a threat from overseas competitors Government Encouragement; There was an opportunity from encouraging social and economic trends like new mobility of young Indians, the governments large road-building program, and generally floating GDP growth. Internal Reasons for Change Loss in Profit; They had a loss of 5 billion rupees in annual fiscal year of March 2001. They had fewer sales so thats why that loss was a significant for business. Expansion of Business; they have desired to expand business in entire their own country and other countries as well. Desire of expand business. Role of Tata Motor Leader; At the time of transformation, they had a problem of 40 % reduction in the commercial-vehicle market in India. They had loss of 5 billion rupee in March 2001 and it was happened first time in the companys history. But Ravi Kant along with his team understood the situation and tried to know what had gone wrong and to create a best path for the future, so that they never face such situation in future again. Answer; Comparisons; Tandori Restaurant has incremental change in management and Tata motors has transformational changes in their set up. Tata Motors is a big international known brand and Tandoori Restaurant is a local Indian based business and it is a small business. Similarities; Both organizations are customer focused and profit oriented because their main focus to gain more customers and earn significant profit. As well they have focus to maintain the good repute of their companies in local market. Both has a staff training programmes and counseling and staff problem solvers because their leaders believe if staff and employees are happy so they must show the best results in their performance. In this regard they listen their employees and consider their constructive suggestions. Both companies focused on team work and create cooperative and constructive environment for the employees and they vanish the communication gap and cultural difference between staff and employees of companies. Outcome of Changes in Tandoori Restaurant He was an intelligent and broad vision leader because Manager Singet Singh knew that their internal demand, which is quite high, will help as an important instrument for reactivating the economy of restaurant. Manager of restaurant knows the challenge and competition of restaurant in local market so thats why he brought professional business changes. Being a Manager Singet Singh took initiative in these incremental changes in restaurant management. However his recommendations are acceptable by the owner and employees of restaurant. The leader of Restaurant played a key role in the management of company and he realized that the decision-making process was a reflection of how he used to manage the company. Leader was fully committed with his given tasks and confident about his steps that what he is doing, is the right way to go. Leader has to be committed for what he is going to do. If he is trust on himself then people will follow him. Tandoori Restaurant manager encouraged and appreciate the hard working and consistent staff, in this regard he announce the cash bounce in the end of fiscal year. Restaurant manager acknowledge the value and objective of the company and he has taken steps in the interest of company. Outcome of Tata Motors Tata Motors leader is intellectual and broad exposure about business market so he took the initiative to manage and regain the financial stability of Tata Motors. At the time of diversification, TATA Motors had a problem of 40 % shrunk in the commercial-vehicle market in India. There was a loss of 5 billion rupee in 2001 and it was happened first time in the companys history. So leader was still optimistic and struggling to retain the position and revenue of the company. But still they understood the situation, tried to know what had gone wrong and to create a path for the future. So they never face such situation in future. TATA Motors had unity among their staff member thats why Ravi Kant says that if they would have had tried to go only through the top, they might not have succeeded as well, and the transformation might have taken much longer. TATA Motors facilitated breakfast meetings to boost staff, asking them for their frank views. Understanding they were suffocated and they wanted change. So they started picking out some them to face challenges and grow in company. Leader has to be patient, persistent, and brave at the same time. Meanwhile leader Ravi Kant considered the intrinsic values of employees as well and he took some tough people decisions. With those who are very closed to you because the company comes first; and leader is here to do what is best for the company.   Leaders should be patience and confident as we see Ravi Kant being a chairman, he has enough patience and confidence throughout entire management. He was the leader who has persistent attitude towards company growth and maintenance. Differences in both Companies Tandoori Restaurant is a small and private owned business and leader is bit autocratic with employees. Restaurant has the incremental internal changes because leader reorganizes the system of restaurant. Tata Motors is a big business but leader of this company is democratic because he invites the employees to discuss the issues and suggestion of customers. Tata Motors is a transformational internal and external change in his setup and management.
